Top World Ranked Winx Starts Preparations of 2016-2017 Season
Winx is compiling an impressive resume, including a world-best 126, a mark she shares with only one other, the U.S. horse California Chrome.
Additionally, the five-year-old Chris Waller trained mare has won her last nine starts, including six Group 1 races, the most recent coming in 2016 when she won the Doncaster Mile back in April.
Waller is starting preparations for the spring carnival season, with the most likely target being a defense of her 2015 Cox Plate win, which she won going away, putting nearly five lengths betwixt herself and the other top contenders, Criterion and Highland Reel.
According to Waller, Winx is now involved in what he calls “pre-training,” which includes “working on an aqua-walker,” before she heads back to Rosehill to begin training in earnest. She is expected to take to the track for some work in July or August and resume racing shortly thereafter.
Winx has deservedly earned the title of Australia’s best racehorse and is speculated to begin the 2016-2017 racing season in Sydney with the Group II Warwick Stakes on 20 August, perhaps followed by the Group I Memsie Stakes a week later.
