Top Sires in 2015 – 2016 Australian Group 1 Racing
Now that the racing season is over, we briefly turn our attention to the sires that had the best success in terms of producing offspring that won Group 1 races in the 2015 – 2016 season.
There were four sires that each accounted for three Group 1 races each.
As far as the most productive bloodline for this season’s Group 1 winners is concerned, it would have to go to Redoute’s Choice, responsible for Peeping, Howard Be Thy Name and Abbey Marie. One of Redoute’s Choice’s colts, Not A Single Doubt, sired Extreme Choice, Good Project and Single Gaze.
Street Cry of Ireland, runner and winner of just one race, the 1600 m 2000 Guineas in Dubai, accounted for two Group 1 winners in the 2015 – 2016 season, but one of those was Winx, winner of five and Stay With Me.
Teofilo, another Irish horse, sired Kermadec and Palentino. Written Tycoon was responsible for Capitalist and Music Magnate and the senior citizen Zabeel, still productive at 29, produced Preferment and Provocative.
Fastnet Rock and Snitzel, widely viewed as the two most commercial stallions currently at stud and winner of two Oakleigh Plates and one other Group 1 race between them, did not have any success this season past, but they both have long careers ahead of them if they can match Zabeel’s longevity.
