Snowden’s Win Group II Missile Stakes with Tycoon Tara
As it turns out, Capitalist stayed in his box at Royal Randwick on Saturday, by the people who decide his schedule found a replacement that was able to take the Missile Stakes for Peter and Paul Snowden in the form of Tycoon Tara. She led from right out of the barrier all the way to the wire, doing her best impression of a missile to win the Group II 1200 m race that kicked off the new season.
The Snowdens decided against running Capitalist on an extremely heavy surface such as Randwick presented, even though the winner of the Golden Slipper Stakes was a heavy favourite. They announced their reluctance just after noon on Friday, so the racing world will have to wait for Capitalist’s debut as a three-year-old.
Tycoon Tara had been priced at $26, so any punters who wagered out of loyalty or respect for the Snowden’s training prowess was duly rewarded.
It is thought that Capitalist will take on the San Domenico Stakes, provided the weather in Sydney clears out and the turf firms up.
Blake Shinn was aboard Tycoon Tara for the win, which is her career best. He would not have taken the ride had Capitalist run in the race, as he would not have been able to make the colt’s 51.5 kg impost.
