Silver Slipper Stakes at Rosehill has Compelling Storylines

Just to prove, to ourselves as much as to anyone else, that there are thoroughbred racing news events that do not involve Winx, today’s installment is intended to appeal to those who enjoy racing involving the juvenile set.

The Golden Slipper Stakes is about a month in the future, but the storylines surround Rosehill racecourse’s 1200 m set weight Group 1 race are beginning to take shape.

One of those, of course, is Houtzen, seeking to become just the fourth to fill the Golden Slipper – Magic Millions double by joining Capitalist from last year, Phelan Ready from 2009 and Dance Hero from 2004. The Magic Millions 2YO Classic is relatively new, having first been run in 1987, while the Golden Slipper will be observing its 61st edition.

Another story line for the Golden Slipper involves not horses, jockeys or trainers, but owners.

James Harron was the money behind Capitalist, last year’s winner, defeating the outstanding filly Yankee Rose belonging to Scott Darby.

This year’s Golden Slipper Stakes will feature, alongside Houtzen of course, Khan from Harron’s stable and Darby will have She Will Reign. The two will square off this weekend in the prelude Group 2 Silver Slipper Stakes, where She Will Reign currently enjoys strong punter favourtism.
