Shifting Dates of Sydney Carnival Gaining Momentum
Those of us who rely on routines in order to cope with the uncertainty of daily life might have to make an adaptation, should the racing authorities have their say and move the Group 1 Golden Slipper Stakes to the final Saturday of March.
Moving the Slipper back by a week would be accompanied by a move of the Group 1 Ranvet Stakes to the spot vacated by the Slipper.
There is also talk of moving the BMW to the third Saturday in April and follow that a week later with the Sydney Cup.
Those changes seem a bit radical to some, a case of too much, too soon, but those are the proposals that will be considered when a review of the results of the Sydney autumn carnival are reviewed for possible tweaks to the thoroughbred racing calendar.
It would appear as though the move to change the Slipper to a week later might be to accommodate extra recovery time for the two-year-olds and the week could be a nice way to rest the winner of the Magic Millions 2YO Classic.
The idea seems to be an effort to have the Golden Slipper run the week before the Derby/Doncaster meeting in order to have the Slipper as part of Rosehill Gardens’ Championships.
