Rosberg Building Potentially Insurmountable F1 Points Margin
Nico Rosberg currently enjoys a comfortable lead in points at this juncture of the 2016 Formula 1 standings; doubly so because the current number two is his teammate and reigning World Champion Lewis Hamilton.
The two drivers’ Mercedes cars have been a notch or two above the Ferrari and Renault powered Team Red Bull cars.
When Rosberg won the European Grand Prix in Azerbaijan, it was his fifth victory of the season after three consecutive disappointing results the prior races.
It is also quite a distance back to the number three car of Sebastian Vetter and number four Kimi Raikkonen, so at this juncture of the 2016 Formula 1 season, it would seem as though the chances beyond Rosberg crashing and being unable to finish the season are relatively limited.
Team Red Bull in the last several weeks installed a new Renault power plant in the car of Daniel Ricciardo intended to close the significant horsepower gap between Red Bull’s cars and those of Mercedes, but that move has yet to pay dividends beyond some good qualifying position.
Anything could happen, but it seems as though the serious misfortune is all being directed by the racing gods to the teams and drivers chasing the Mercedes team.
