Queensland Trained Thoroughbreds v Sydney’s Best in 2YO Millions
Queensland trained horses went through a bit of a rough patch from 1998 to 2008, where only 2003’s Regimental Gap managed a win in the Magic Millions 2YO Classic, but mounted a nice resurgence over the past eight years, winning four times, courtesy of Phelan Ready, Military Rose, Real Surreal and Le Chef.
This year’s race on Saturday is shaping up to be a classic Queensland v New South Wales affair. Early favourite, Victorian filly Madeenaty has fallen out of favour since her pre-Christmas win at Wyong. She is now priced at $8.00, behind Invincible Star at $7.00, From Within at $4.20 and Houtzen at $3.00, according to Sportsbet as of early Tuesday morning.
Ours To Keep in the other Queenslander with decent prospects, tied with Madeenaty at $8.00.
From Within and Invincible Star will both be making just their second start and if either would win, it would be the first instance of a winner coming from having only one race prior.
Sydney-based jockey Glyn Schofield, who took the ride in From Within’s debut, only to lose the Millions ride to Hugh Bowman, is proclaiming that only bad luck could get From Within beaten.
Houtzen will have some say in the issue and uncertainty is the reason the races are actually run.
