Miss Cover Girl Poised to Make Run at Group 3 George Moore Stakes
The absence of Miss Cover Girl during the spring carnival was conspicuous, since after winning the Group 1 Tatts Tiara in June, she would have seemed to have excellent prospects. Trainer Kelly Schweida, however, thought that she was lacking, based on her training runs.
Schweida now thinks Miss Cover Girl is in a much better place, an opinion he will put to the test at Brisbane’s Eagle Farm racecourse in Saturday’s Group 3 George Moore Stakes.
The current favourite for the race is Too Good To Refuse, a winner his last time out at Eagle Farm on November 19. He has drawn barrier one. Also ahead of Miss Cover Girl are Most Important, jumping from 11, and Trubia, coming out of eight.
Miss Cover Girl had a trial Tuesday at Deagon to get her up to speed and will be ridden in the George Moore Stakes by D. J. Browne. She was first out of seven in that trial, but that is hardly indicative of much. She ran in the Moore last year and finished ninth out of 10.
Her Group 1 win in the Tatts Tiara would have to be considered a bit of a shock then, and her previous win in November of 2015 was a trial at Deagon.
