Magic Millions 2YO Classic Barrier Draw Unfavourable to Houtzen
It seems that there was some sort of mix-up with the barrier draw for Saturday’s Magic Millions (1200 m) 2YO Classic, but the issue has been handled and the positions of the starters finalised to the satisfaction of Racing Victoria chief Steward Allan Reardon, so the stones can be carved.
The issue did not have serious repercussions, in Reardon’s view at least, and resulted in less chaos than would have a decision to redraw.
The mistake on the part of the draw Master of Ceremonies, Hamish McLachlan, was to give a horse an opportunity to draw a barrier ahead of its proper slot.
Both the horses involved, Imaginethepoeple and Zukaz, were emergency candidates, with neither likely to start the Magic Millions 2YO Classic.
The two stewards present at the draw, Ian Bro0wn and Daniel Aurisch, made the decision to proceed despite the glitch and Reardon concluded that they had made the right call.
As far as the luck of the draw is concerned, Houtzen had none, as the Toby Edwards trained, J. Lloyd ridden horse will start from the far outside, having drawn barrier 21.
Houtzen is currently co-favourite with From Within at $3.75 on Sportsbet, but From Within drew the much more favourable barrier seven from which to jump.
