Limestone Offers Weir His Best Juvenile Prospect
With the 1200 m Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes at Caulfield racecourse exactly one month ahead, Daren Weir is expressing expectations of his juvenile filly Limestone.
Weir, whose credentials are beyond reproach, has not been a major factor with the juveniles, but Limestone appears to give him an opportunity to reverse that deficiency.
He plans to run her in the 1000 m Group 3 Blue Diamond Preview this weekend at Caulfield, which is restricted to 2YO fillies and run at set weights as a way of gauging her fitness for the Blue Diamond Stakes.
Limestone, in the words of Weir, “Is a ready-made two-year-old. She’s got the right attitude and has been sound all the way through.”
It is too soon to find Limestone in the betting markets, as Weir is not known to nominate juveniles months in advance until they prove worthy, in which event he is willing to pay the late entry fee.
The early favourite for the Blue Diamond Stakes is Tulip, who is heading the Preview markets at $2.70, so if Limestone can get the better of the Hayes – Dabernig trained bay filly, it would probably prove the kind of confirmation that would influence Weir with regard to Limestone’s potential.
