Kingston Town Classic at Ascot Final Group 1 of 2016
The last Group 1 race of the year, the 1800-metre weight for age Kingston Town Classic, is just a few days from the jump at Ascot.
There are no Group 1 races after that until 2017, when Caulfield hosts the CF Orr Stakes.
Sixteen horses are set to jump in the Kingston Town Classic. Chris Waller has three runners for the moment, Good Project, Vanburgh and Mackintosh. Four runners in the field come from trainers Grant and Alana Williams: Disposition, Heart Starter, Neverland and Perfect Reflection. Perfect Reflection has, at 56.5 kg, a slight weight advantage over two of the other runners. Nine of the runners will carry the top weight of 59 kg.
Sportsbet currently has Perfect Reflection as the favourite at $4.00 coming out of barrier two with William Pike aboard. Scales of Justice is next at $4.80, followed by Kawi at $6.00.
Kawi finished in sixth two weeks ago in the Group 1 Railway Stakes on the same Ascot course, where he gave away a lot of weight to his rivals.
Perfect Reflection was the winner last year. The race’s namesake, Kingston Town, was the winner in 1982.
Scales of Justice, seeking to join Better Loosen Up, Old Comrade, Modem and Sniper’s Bullet as a Railway Stakes/Kingston Town doubles winner, drew the horror gate of 16, so will need to produce a phenomenal run.
