Jameka Runs Away From Field in Group 1 BMW
Her 15th from 24 finish in the 2016 Melbourne Cup apparently just a distant memory, Jameka proved that she is a capable stayer, turning the tables on her antagonist from the Group 1 Australia Cup, Humidor, and notching an impressive victory in Saturday’s Group 1 BMW.
Exospheric finished third in both races and must be wondering what it takes to triumph against the other two.
It would seem as though the 4YO bay mare by Ireland’s Myboycharlie from Mine Game has regained the form that was conspicuously absent following her dismal showing in the Melbourne Cup, as her two runs in February in the Group 1 C.F. Orr and the Group 2 Peter Young Stakes produced only fourth-place finishes, as Black Hart Bart and Stratum Star, respectively, beat her in those races.
Jameka has managed to assemble quietly an impressive racing resume and her trainer, Ciaron Maher, has learned, as have the others, simply to avoid races against Winx. Jameka has earned nearly $5 million and can easily increase that haul substantially, assuming she races another season or two.
We did not expect to see Winx in the 2400 metre BMW, as she has never won beyond 2200 metres, although when she was tried at 2400 metres back in 2015 in the Group 1 ATC Oaks at Randwick, where she lost out to New Zealand’s Gust OF Wind, it signaled the start of her winning streak that has since been uninterrupted.
