Houtzen Falls Short in Slipper Winx Laps Field in Ryder
Magic Millions 2YO Classic winner Houtzen could not fill the Millions/Slipper double, failing to place in the Group 1 Golden Slipper Stakes at Rosehill that was won by She Will Reign.
Frolic finished second and her jockey, Tommy Berry indicated that She Will Reign and rider Ben Melham had put Frolic and Berry on the rail, but he did not seem to go so far as to claim interference.
The third place finisher was Tulip and Kerrin McEvoy claims that they were brushed by Menari, causing them to stop racing inside the final 50 metres.
Some thought the track was the source of discomfort for their horses, but we are not hesitant to point out that they all ran the same track.
Winx kept her roll intact with her 16th consecutive. For a horse race, this was no horse race. Photos of the finish needed a wide perspective to include any of the other runners in the frame.
The win put her over $10 million for her career. If she were to catch Makybe Diva despite never having run the Melbourne Cup, it would be hard to dispute her as the best all-time. She still, however, needs nine more victories to match Black Caviar and if she were our horse, we probably would not run her more than once more during autumn and perhaps twice in spring, before putting her to work at stud.
