Hot Jockey Collett Seeking First Group 1 on Man From Uncle
Talks of a washout for Saturday’s meeting have subsided, for the moment at least, and one jockey who would like to see the meeting held is Jason Collett, who will be riding Man From Uncle in the Group 1 1600 m Royal Randwick Guineas.
Collett has been the recipient of good fortune lately, coming into the meeting on a feature race-winning streak in Sydney that now extends to four consecutive meetings.
Man From Uncle, the 3YO bay gelding by the U.S. stallion Uncle Mo from Derelique, has three wins to his credit, the most recent being the Group 3 Eskimo Prince at Randwick and the Group 2 Hobartville Stakes at Rosehill. His training is by Anthony Cummings.
Collett’s ride is currently tied for second-favourite in the wagering on Sportsbet, at $6.00, with Inference. Comin’ Through is the favourite for the moment, at $4.60 and Prized Icon also has some backers, but has drawn wide with the 14th barrier.
That said, Man From Uncle did not fare much better, drawing 13. Comin’ Through had the good fortune to draw barrier 4.
For Collett, at stake is his first Group 1 win, and with two Group 3 and two Group 2 winners from his last four races, he is anxious to break through. He was riding Grand Marshall in the Chipping Norton Stakes, where he finished ninth out of 10, but Winx was in the race, so he might as well have been walking.
