Hartnell Probable for Cox Plate Showdown with Winx
The Goldolphin racing operation could never be accused of lacking the creativity to prolong a sense of intrigue regarding the future schedule of its major star, Hartnell.
They have been mum on the prospect, at least from the perspective of supplying a definite confirmation, of giving the racing public the match it most desires, a Cox Plate meeting at Moonee Valley in late October.
Hartnell is among the horses that have made their third declarations not just for the Cox Plate on October 22, but also for the Caulfield Cup on October 15 and the Melbourne Cup on November 1.
The scenario considered most likely at this point points toward the Cox Plate, as Hartnell jockey James McDonald will not be riding in the Caulfield Cup due to suspension. He has decided not to go the appeal route and many observers have taken that to mean that it is the Cox Plate for Hartnell.
Goldolphin also plans to run Charlie Appleby trained stayer Scottish in the Cox Plate. International runners Articus and Sir Isaac Newton, along with Exosphere, are preparing for the race at Werribee while serving two weeks quarantine.
Twenty-five horses currently have the requisite qualifications to run in the field of 18 plus four emergencies.
