Hartnell, Jameka, Almandin, Bondi Beach Melbourne Cup Faves
As might be expected, the global behemoth operation Goldolphin is planning a fielding a team of horses to contest the Melbourne Cup, led by current and likely post-time favourite Hartnell.
Hartnell is priced at $5.00 at the moment, and has been for the last little while, even though a certain mare made him look lame and three-legged in the Cox Plate. Fortunately, for Hartnell, Winx is not considered equal to the 3200 m distance of the Cup, so she will be in the stable, contentedly munching oats when Tuesday comes around.
Jameka and Germany’s Almandin are they only two to approach the race with exemptions. Jameka is priced at $6.50 and Almandin is quoted at $12.
Along with Hartnell for Goldolphin, Tally is a likely candidate and there are another five horses from the operation that are in contention for the big race.
Caulfield Cup runner-up, Scottish, Geelong Cup winner Qewy and Geelong Cup third place finisher Oceanographer, all prepared by English trainer Charlie Appleby are others that Goldolphin could field.
Thirty-two horses remain as potential runners following the second round of nominations, but the name of last year’s winner, Prince of Penzance, does not seem to have made the list.
