Goodwood at Morphettville Showcases Black Heart Bart
Pay heed all of your thoroughbred punters who preserve your funds for plunges on only the top events.
Saturday is one of your last Group 1 opportunities for the 2016 – 2017 Australian thoroughbred racing season when the 1200 m Group 1 Goodwood sprint jumps at Morphettville in Adelaide.
The only other chance in the month of May will be the BTC Cup the following weekend at Eagle Farm. Five Group 1 races in June conclude the top echelon for the season, with Eagle Farm hosting all five, the Queensland Oaks, the Stradbroke Handicap, the Queensland Derby, The TJ Smith Stakes and the Winter Stakes.
Our immediate concern for the moment is the Goodwood in South Australia, run under set-weight-plus penalty conditions for all ages and both genders, including those who have had the misfortune to be de-gendered.
Black Heart Bart and Brad Rawiller won the race for trainer Darren Weir in 2016. BHB won the Group 1 Futurity in February and he seems the sort that can win the big races so long as a certain super mare is lounging in the stables.
Bart is the far-and-away favourite to take out the Goodwood this year, currently carrying a $3.50 quote in a crowded field. Malaguerra, Secret Agenda and Vega Magic are the others carrying sub-$10 quotes.
