Golden Rose at Rosehill Features Big Name Colts and Fillies
Uber-trainer Chris Waller has confirmed that his top-flight filly Omei Sword and colt Nikitas will be in the field for the 1400 Group 1 set weight Golden Rose at Rosehill racecourse this Saturday.
Then again, Waller had confirmed Winx for the Chelmsford Stakes and a lot can happen in the span of time remaining until the Golden Rose.
Omei Sword won the Group 2 Silver Shadow Stakes over 1200 m last month at Randwick in her last start, but, hopefully, not sounding too gender-biased, that race was restricted to three-year-old fillies.
Of course, for horses, gender equality has long be acknowledged, as anyone familiar with the names Makybe Diva and Black Caviar, to mention just two, is fully aware.
Waller has yet to announce the pilots for his two runners, but that decision is soon to be made.
Randwick-based trainers Peter and Paul Snowden have gotten Mediterranean ready for the race and they feel confident that the colt has had a good run up.
Snowden has been the name associated with three previous Golden Rose Stakes winners, with Forensics in 2008, Denman in 2009 and Epaulette in 2012.
At this stage, Astern is the favourite, followed closely by Omei Sword. Mediterranean is well back.
