Glen Boss Flies to Rescue to Ride Big Duke in Sydney Cup

Craig Williams lost his appeal to have his eight-meeting suspension reduced, so he will be unable to ride Sydney Cup favourite Big Duke in the Saturday replay at Randwick.

Singapore celebrity jockey Glen Boss will be airlifted in at the behest of Australian Bloodstock honcho Jamie Lovett. Hopefully, Boss does not book himself on the last flight of the day leaving Singapore and is not subsequently dragged from the flight to make room for an airline employee. If airport thugs had no difficulty ejecting a 69-year-old Asian doctor, they would not have much trouble with Boss, who is known to be scrappy in the saddle, but at 47 years of age and jockey weight, three airport law enforcers should be sufficient to ground Boss.

Boss has not completely abandoned Australia, although he has not won in Australia since April 25 of 2016, when he took the post at Flemington in a BM84 graded race aboard Every Faith.

Boss has won the Sydney Cup previously, way back in 2004, when he rose to great fame as a result of a mare beneath him named Makybe Diva.

Big Duke will come out of barrier two for this attempt at an official Sydney Cup result, is quoted at $3.20 by Sportsbet and has a five kg weight advantage on Who Shot Thebarman.
