First and Second QEII Finishers Will Move to Hong Kong
Two significant Australian thoroughbreds will relocate to Hong Kong to seek fame and fortune, the emphasis being on fortune.
Eagle Way, the winner of the 2016 Group 1 Queensland Derby at Eagle Farm is one and the other is the three-year-old of Chris Waller’s operation, Rodrico.
Magic Millions handled the details of the transaction.
Rodrico was purchased by Jonson Chen, owner of current Hong Kong star Werther. That horse won the 2016 Hong Kong Derby and the Queen Elizabeth II Cup. He will be turned over to trainer John Moore.
In his Australian racing career, Rodrico made nine jumps, winning three times, placing four and earning almost $300,000.
Eagle Way is the same age as Rodrico and the 2400 m Group 1 QEII was by far the most significant of his four wins. His sire was More Than Ready of the U.S. and his dam Wedgetail Eagle of Australia is of predominantly U.S. bloodstock, with some very impressive ancestors from Canada and Italy.
Rodrico’s sire, High Chaparral, lists Ireland as his foaling ground. He was undefeated and won four Group 1 races back in 2002 and 2003.
