Emirates Melbourne Cup Day Is Here

Over 100,000 racegoers are expected to attend Emirates Melbourne Cup Day at Flemington on the first Tuesday in November, with the race that stops a nation™ to be run at 3pm (AEDST).

Fine spring weather is expected and one day out, GA ticket sales were 3.9 per cent up on the same day last year.

A record equaling 11 internationally trained horses and leading locals will vie for the $6.2 million on offer in the world’s richest handicap, the Emirates Melbourne Cup, in what has been described as the strongest field ever.

Japan’s Fame Game, trained by Yoshitada Munakata, is currently the $4.20 favourite with the TAB, ahead of the British trained Trip To Paris ($7.50) and Chris Waller’s Preferment ($9).

The exclusive Birdcage will host local and international celebrities including VRC and Emirates international guest Lady Kitty Spencer, Millie Mackintosh and Stephen Jones at Emirates; Didier Cohen, Chris and Rebecca Judd, Chyka Keebaugh and Lydia Schiavello at Lavazza; Daniel MacPherson at James Boags; David Guetta, Melissa Rivers, Brad Goreski, Joel McHale and Ksenija Lukich at G.H. Mumm; and Hamish Blake and Andy Lee broadcasting from the Birdcage for Southern Cross Austereo.

Prior to the running of the Emirates Melbourne Cup, Anthony and James Cummings—son and grandson of the ‘Cups King’ Bart Cummings—will enter the Mounting Yard with Light Fingers’ 1965 Cup trophy and officially deliver the 2015 Emirates Melbourne Cup to VRC Chairman Michael Burn.

The traditional pre-Emirates Melbourne Cup entertainment will see Jessica Mauboy perform her new single ‘This Ain’t Love’ followed by the Australian National Anthem. Following the running of ‘the race that stops a nation,’ Craig David will give a free live performance at Hill Square.

In the fashion stakes, Emirates Melbourne Cup Day is the day to make your strongest fashion statement with bold looks and colours. In the stunning Myer Fashions on the Field enclosure, hosted by Nikki Phillips and James Tobin, the Women’s Racewear competition continues, followed by the invitation-only Design Award. The judging panel includes Herald Sun fashion writer Anna Byrne, Myer Fashions on the Field Ambassador Georgia Connolly, Myer ambassador Kris Smith, racing royalty Kate Waterhouse, Myer designer Johnny Schembri, Myer milliner Kerrie Stanley, and Harper’s Bazaar Fashion Director Thelma McQuillan.

This year’s competition again boasts a prize pool valued at more than $400,000, including a brand new Lexus IS 200t F Sport valued at up to $75,225.

General admission racegoers can enjoy winning post views at the James Boag’s Premium Celebration Deck, a VIP marquee experience at Yellowglen Terrace, cocktails at the Schweppes Flemington Fling Bar, exquisite wines at the Wolf Blass Nest, the newest taste sensations at the Red Rock Deli Tasting Plate and Create Your Taste burger bar, and for sports fans the Triple M Lounge located in the recently refurbished Undercroft.

Pin & Win volunteers will be out in force selling Emirates Melbourne Cup pins in support of Melbourne Cup Carnival charity partner, the Starlight Children’s Foundation.

The Emirates Melbourne Cup Post-Race Media Conference, featuring the winning trainer, jockey and connections, will take place in the Media Centre at approximately 3.30pm. Space is limited and media must contact Marcus Williams in the Media Centre prior to 2.30pm to request access.

Melbourne Cup Carnival tickets are still available for purchase from Flinders Street, Southern Cross and North Melbourne train stations or racegoers can jump the queues and buy online from Ticketek on their mobiles, even on the day. Admission is free for children under 16 accompanied by an adult.

Media are reminded that only broadcast rights holder, Seven Network, can film vision of horses and racing, including Mounting Yard, racetrack and horse stalls. All other networks must source this vision from Network Seven in accordance with the Melbourne Cup Carnival media rules.

Only staff with media accreditation can access Flemington.
