Daberning Runners Seaburge and Zamzam Take on AJC Sires’ Produce
According to trainer Tom Daberning, the 1400 m distance and the soft conditions expected at Randwick for the AJC Sires’ Produce Stakes this Saturday should be benefits for his two runners, Seaburge and Zamzam.
Daberning’s training pedigree is at least as impressive as that of his horses. He works in association with his uncle, David Hays.
Seaburge has Sebring for a sire. That horse won three G1 races and called it good, entering stud at Widden in 2009. As for Seaburge, he was impressive in winning the G2 VRC Sires’ Produce Stakes at the same distance and set-weight conditions on March 12 at Flemington.
Filly Zamzam’ sire Redoute’s Choice was also a capable G1 sprinter, winning for races before going on to set an Australian record of 212 for covering mares in 2004, with 81 winners to his credit since entering stud in 2000.
Seaburge has had steady backing from punters, remaining at $8 in early betting, while Zamzam has gone from $17 to $21. Telperion remains the favourite at $3.60, with Yankee Rose close behind at $3.80.
