Caulfield Guineas for 2016 has Up and Comers on Display
The Group 1 Caulfield Guineas field is set and the barrier draw announced for Saturday’s race for three-year-old colts and geldings.
Fourteen runners will take to the Caulfield turf for a 1600 m test.
All the horses were given the weight of 56.5 kg for the set-weight race.
The race is open to fillies, but it is often regarded as a stallion-making event. Many horses have gone on to win multiple Group 1 races after winning the Guineas. One of the most notable was Tulloch in 1957. Surround was one filly that won, in 1976 and went on to become the first and only three-year-old of her gender to win the Cox Plate that same year.
Unlike some major races, no single trainer has more than one runner is this year’s Caulfield Guineas.
