Caulfield Cup Features Fine Field of 18 With Jameka Favourite
With the Caulfield Cup mere days away, Jameka remains the favourite despite having drawn barrier 11. She will carry 52.5 kg in the 2400 m Group 1 staying race around Caulfield racecourse. Five of the other 18 in the field are lighter.
Sportsbet currently has Jameka on offer at $3.30, a nice price with some room to account for bookmaker margin.
Scottish and Real Love follow at $8.00 and the final horse below double-digit odds is Articus at $9.00.
Chris Waller is fielding Preferment and will jump with Hugh Bowman aboard from barrier 15 at $26.00. Waller also has Sacred Master and rider Tommy Barrier coming out of eight at the same price.
Four-year-old bay mare Jameka has placed in 12 of her 18 starts and last spring won the 2500 m Group 1 Crown Oaks at Flemington. Her other wins came in Group 2 and Group 3 level races, but she has performed well every time she has ventured out of the barn and has never finished worse than seventh, and that only on two occasions.
Jameka’s trainer is Caulfield-based Ciaron Maher and Nick Williams will handle steering duties with Damien Oliver elected to ride Exospheric for the Freedmans and Craig Williams riding Real Love for Darren Weir.
