Capitalist Wins Barrier Trial Easily
The Breeders’ Plate winner Capitalist recently resurfaced recently to show up his competitors in a Rosehill barrier trial that left him the clear favourite for the Magic Millions next month.
Jockey Blake Shinn had little to do in the 900m event other than sit there as Capitalist casually showed the others what he looks like when viewed from four lengths back. Capitalist’s recent spell apparently strengthened him quite a bit and he is currently priced at $3.50 with just about a month remaining until the race.
Observers of the trial expressed the opinion that if he had been stretched, he could easily have beaten Slumber Party’s 53.10 time, as he ran 53.20 with little apparent effort.
Shinn believes that some work remains to make Capitalist improve at the hit-out, but that will only require a bit of trackwork and preparation. Capitalist, according to Shinn, “…has strengthened up nicely during the spell and feels that bit stronger and more furnished this time.”
It is expected that Capitalist will next race in the Magic Millions Wyong 2YO Classic. If he wins that race, which is now considered a Restricted Listed black type event, he will join notable past winners such as Unencumbered, Snitzel, Karuta Queen and Not A Single Doubt.
