Boxing Day Round Up – How They Went

This week’s wrap takes a look at the Boxing Day meetings from Randwick, Caulfield and the Gold Coast.

At Randwick one of the more underrated horses in training in Mighty Lucky grabbed his second stakes win in a month and the third of his career when racing away with the Summer Cup, run these days over the 2000m. That distance was probably the biggest pre-race concern for the Central Coast trained gelding but he lapped it up proving far too good for Junoob.

The other black type race on the program was the listed Canterbury Classic and Cradle Me (pictured), a 7yo mare who hadn’t won in 16 months prior to her last to first win in the Razor Sharp a fortnight ago, made it two straight feature wins when this time storming along the inside, again at big double figure odds.

Credit to trainer David Pfieffer who has turned this mare into a dual stakeswinner – the breeding barn was the next stop for her after an average campaign last time in but perseverance has paid dividends. Read More…
