Black Heart Bart Long Shot Black Horse in Cox Plate?
Black Heart Bart is making a case for being considered as a legitimate threat the Winx following his dominant win in the Group 1 Underwood Stakes recently at Caulfield.
Those who doubted Bart raised questions about his ability to go 1800 m under weight-for-age-conditions, but those questions have been answered and the critics admonished to keep their doubtful comments to themselves when he absorbed a ferocious pace, yet still had more than enough left to sprint clear at the end, beating second place finisher Her Or She by almost three horses and leaving the highly touted Lucia Valentia gasping in third.
Bart is still far behind Winx, currently listed in the Cox Plate at $1.85, but he has gone from $21 down to $13.
Form followers will note that Bart on Saturday beat Lucia Valentia by one length less than Winx had a few weeks ago.
Black Heart Bart trainer Darren Weir has been making the most of the opportunity to create suspense and mis-direction regarding Bart, making comments along the line that his horse does not belong on the same course as Winx, yet Bart this spring has either won or placed well in each of his recent starts.
