Black Caviar Lightning Preview
The Black Caviar Lightning shapes as a class race between the proven Weight-for-age champion, Chautauqua ($2.70) and the budding new kid on the block, Exosphere ($2.45).
Both have trialled equally well in the lead up to this sprint classic and there isn’t much between them in the market, albeit a slight lean towards the three year old. Punters might question Exosphere’s failure at his only start down the Flemington straight in the Coolmore last Spring which was taken out by Japonisme ($10), but the track was less than ideal that day and his fourth-placed effort probably warrants forgiveness.
Conversely, Chautauqua has been down the straight on six occasions for three wins and three second placings. It’s fair to say the striking grey seems to like the spacious surrounds of the Flemington track.
Some credence must be afforded to Terravista ($8.00) who boasts a victory over Chautauqua at this track, while Delectation ($8.00) got the chocolates ahead of both Chautauqua and Terravista in the Darley Classic back in November.
The rest of the field looks hard-pressed to match it with the top liners.
