Barrier Draws and Early Betting for Morphettville’s Saturday Group 1s
It is a long time until the 2018 Cox Plate on 27 October, but we thought you should know that Winx is currently quoted at $1.55 by Ladbrokes. The other likely runners in the field are all those Winx has beaten in the past, including Humidor, currently priced at $15.
Returning to the present, the next big races on the radar are the Group 1 Robert Sangster Stakes and the Group 1 Australasian Oaks at Adelaide’s Morphettville racecourse this weekend.
The barrier draws have been announced for both races and the early betting markets for both races are open. Quotes provided are courtesy of Ladbrokes.
In the Robert Sangster Stakes (1200 m), five-year-old mare Viddora is the $4.20 favourite and will jump on the rail under Joe Bowditch. Right beside Viddora is the four-year-old Quilista at $6.50. Quilista’s form would not seem to justify her being on the second line, but she has won her last three, so perhaps Darren Weir has found the proper formula. Quilista does boast of a 79 percent win/place percentage, so a punt on her would not exactly be money cast to the wind.
Dainty Tess has drawn well, coming out of barrier five and the same could be said of Catchy out of eight. Both are currently priced at $10.
Just prior to the Robert Sangster, the Group 1 Schweppes Australasian Oaks has a field of 15 listed, with Sopressa on the first line at $4.80 on the rail. Savacool is on the second line at $5.00. She will come out of the 11th barrier with Damien Oliver driving for Chris Waller. Think Bleue is another Darren Weir horse. She is listed at $6.50 and will be ridden by John Allen, but the pair will have to work hard to overcome jumping from the car park 15th barrier.
