Arcadia Dream Aims for WA/SA Derby Double
WATC Derby winner Arcadia Dream is heading east to seek her fortune at Morphettville in the South Australia Derby, hoping to build on her Group 2 WATC Derby win at the Group 1 level.
Her owner, Bob Peters, saw one of his horses win the WATC Derby for the eighth time and his runner Delicacy took a double last year with the Australasian Oaks and SA Derby, so he is hopeful that Arcadia Dream can duplicate Delicacy’s prior results.
The Group 2 win in the WATC Derby was Arcadia Dream’s best result in date in terms of quality, but she won a Listed Race at Ascot at the end of 2015 over 1800m, so filly is showing all signs of being able to handle the staying races and the win at 2400m confirms that assertion.
If she goes on to try both the Australasian Oaks (2000m) and the SA Derby (2500m), it will be the first time she has been sent out twice consecutively beyond 2000m.
Trainer Grant Williams has been bringing her along on a nice arc, and other than a mid-field showing in the WA Guineas in November of 2015 and a fourth in the Challenge Stakes, she has placed either first or second in nine races and third in one.
