Anticipation for Magic Millions Building as Field Forms
It might be turning into a two-horse race, but with the unpredicatable nature of two-year-olds, the Magic Millions next week is difficult for e even the most astute racing experts to tip.
Houtzen is a Gold Coast local and has vaulted to early favourtism after running roughshod over the field in her last race on the Gold Coast on Saturday. It required a wide-angle photo for the others in the field to be in the same frame. She needed to earn money from her race in order to qualify for the Magic Millions, which she did, emphatically.
Chris Waller is expected to field his Sydney filly From Within, but another Sydney runner, Single Bullet, has been ruled out by Gary Portelli after a second place finish.
Houtzen will be joined by another Queenslander in Ours To Keep, Chris Munce’s unbeaten bay colt that has carried Damian Brown to the post once at Eagle Farm and twice at Doomben.
Houtzen trainer Toby Edmonds would have preferred not to be running her so close to the Millions, but it was that or sit out the marquee race.
Houtzen jockey Jeff Lloyd seems to think highly of her prospects, telling Edmonds that in her recent win, she could have gone around the outside fence and still have won.
