UBET is the outcome of the rebranding efforts of Tatts Group Limited, a multi-state licensed Australian bookmaker based in Brisbane. Tatts has irons in many fires, so far as Australian wagering is concerned, but for our current purposes, we will focus on their online – mobile racing and sports offerings. Tatt’s could be accused of lollygagging, surrendering customers and market share to the ever-evolving and sophisticated operations of domestic and international privateer bookmakers.
UBET was Tatts’ way of announcing that they did not intend to go gently into that good night. What follows is a brief examination of the revamped operation.
Before we delve into the details of UBET as it currently functions, we feel it necessary that they still operate around 1400 retails betting shops in various Australian locations. We find that comforting and confidence inspiring, as opposed to some of the international agencies that are licensed by countries where licenses are granted on the basis of properly bribed government bureaucrats.
One thing that is certain to help UBET’s cause is that because they are the officially state authorised government bookies in multiple states, their sign up bonuses and their promotions are open to a far greater pool of punters than are those of some of the big domestic and multinational agencies that encroached on the Australian market by acquiring domestically launched bookmakers. UBET has a $500 sign-up bonus bet, far below the offers of most others, but UBET’s can be used by just about everyone, with the exception of NSW residents.
We were initially put off a bit by the layout of UBET’s website. It does not use the common three-column layout that makes it so easy for us to jump from one site to another, but after we used it for a while, we have gained in appreciation for the simple and effective arrangement, the subdued color scheme and the large, simple fonts. Put off a bit does not, however, begin to describe our feelings when we entered the ubet.com URL in our browser bar and were greeted by an almost epileptic fit-inducing sled show that gives a new nuance to the definition of “hideous.”
In their defence, UBET is not the only bookie that does that, nor are they the only website guilty of this distracting nonsense.
Once we clicked the Racing tab near the top of the page, we were taken to a horse racing screen that gave us information on 18 venues, with links to about 140 races, at a quick glance.
This page offered options for Today, Tomorrow and Future Races. It was practically instantaneous to know which of the races offered fixed odds and which had guaranteed pools.
Scrolling down from the gallopers, we found equally useful and easily accessed information on greyhound and harness racing. Clicking on a market instantly added it to the bet slip, although unlike the bet slips of other bookmakers, UBET’s did not calculate potential winnings. This seems like a minor oversight, however, and did not unduly influence us.
Back at the top of the page, there is a tab for Sports, Live Betting and Promotions. One knock to which UBET was subjected in the past was that they did not offer much in the way of promotions. They have rectified that deficiency, and now have quite a bit happening, according to the season.
Taking a look at UBET’s sports offerings, we again found the information easy to take in and assimilate at a glance. We searched for AFL games, and noticed straight away that for the upcoming round, games had somewhere between a high of 59 markets, but most had 46. So, for nine games in the next round, UBET had fewer total markets than say, Sportsbet, which could pass UBET with just the markets for two games.
We selected one of the matches, Carlton v North Melbourne and we immediately saw that UBET’s odds are in line with most of the others. Once again, the information was clearly presented in large fonts, but those large fonts did require some scrolling to view the more esoteric markets.
When we scrolled back to the top of the page and clicked on the Live tab, we saw so many options that we were quite pleased to see that UBET supplies a filter, so live markets can be limited by sport. There was also a handy filter for narrowing selections down further that we think we will use quite a bit.
Even with the security protocols and the necessity of using our mobile phone to access a browser in order to download the UBET app, we were up and running in under five minutes. None of that is UBET’s responsibility.
We were using an Android device and had first to allow apps from unknown sources to be downloaded, and everyone knows about Android’s refusal to stock wagering apps.
Once we had the app open, we were pleased to discover that it closely replicates the website in terms of layout and ease of navigation.
Mobile apps and websites are vital for modern punters, because apps and websites give them something to do while they are waiting in lines and such. UBET did an admirable job with theirs and we would place it in our top three, possibly as high as number two, of all the apps we have examined. Even mobile neophytes, such as we consider ourselves, will be navigating and tapping like old hands in a matter of minutes.
Other UBET Features
Racing punters can live stream races with Sky Racing 1 and Sky Racing 2. Join UBET.com & Receive $500 In Bonus Bets.
They can also access audio via Radio TAB. They offer tipping and black book services, as well as information on jockey challenges, scratchings and future races, so from a racing perspective, UBET is top notch.
For sports, they supply up-to-date information on price moves for a variety of markets across a substantial range of sports.
As for funding and withdrawals, it is doubtful that anyone will find it difficult to fund an account, place wagers and withdraw dividends from UBET.
Where many of these less critical details are concerned, UBET is up to typical punter expectations.
We can find nothing off-putting about the Tatts rebrand that resulted in UBET. Some punters may object to the website and mobile app layouts, but even those of us who value our routines were able to quickly and accurately find and select markets.
We are unable to provide what we would deem reliable information on UBET margins, so we will assume, until there is conclusive information at our disposal that UBET is competitive, because to do otherwise would be to run the risk of rapid extinction. Join UBET.com & Receive $500 In Bonus Bets
