The Golden Slipper Stakes is a Sydney Turf Club Group One Australian horse race for two year old horses.

It is contested over a distance of 1200 metres and is held annually at Rosehill Racecourse in Sydney in April.

Prize money for the Golden Slipper Stakes is worth over 3.5 million dollars.

Sydney Turf Club committeeman, George Ryder was the creator for the Golden Slipper Stakes. 

He wanted a race solely for two year olds run at special weights - 54 kg for colts and geldings and 51 kg for fillies. 

The first Golden Slipper Stakes was run in 1957 with 11 runners and was won by the great champion colt Todman. Over the next four years the winners of the Golden Slipper were all sired by the sire Star Kingdom whose sire lines can still be found in the breeding of many of today's winners.

The most successful trainer for the Golden Slipper Stakes was the late T J Smith with six winners followed by J.B. Cummings, Clarry Conners and Lee Freedman with four winners each.

The most successful jockeys have been Ron Quinton and Shane Dye with 4 wins each, followed by Mick Dittman, Kevin Langby and Athol Mulley with three each.  Two apprentices have won the Golden Slipper Stakes - Wayne Harris and Darren Beadman.

The 2010 Golden Slipper Stakes was won by Crystal Lily from Decision Time with More Strawberries third.

The 2011 Golden Slipper Stakes will be run on th 2nd April 2011.
