The Expressway Stakes is a Group 2 Australian open horse race for 3-year-old and over at Weight for Age.

It is contested over a distance of 1200 metres at Rosehill Racecourse in Sydney in February.

Prize money for the Expressway Stakes is worth $200,000.

The Expressway Stakes is the first weight-for-age group race of the new year in Sydney.

The Expressway Stakes suits horses in good condition and form, as well as racing greats making their return to the turf. Some excellent race horses have won the Expressway Stakes including Lonhro (2003), Tie The Knot (2001) and Saintly (1996). Beginning as a Principal race in 1974 when I'm Scarlet claimed victory, the race was lifted to Group 2 status in 1979.

Runners contesting this race may continue on to the Group 2 Apollo Stakes in a fortnight at the same track as it is raced under the same weight-for-age conditions but is up in distance to 1400 metres.

The 2010 Expressway Stakes was won by Rangirangdoo from Dao Dao with McClintock third.

The 2011 Expressway Stakes will be run on the 5th February, 2011.
