The race is run over a distance of 1350 metres at Doomben Racecourse, Brisbane.

Prize money for the Doomben 10,000 is worth $650,000.

The Group 1 BTC Cup held two weeks earlier at the same track has been a good guide in recent years to finding a winner for this race.

Many horses from this race will go on and tackle the major sprint race of the Brisbane winter carnival which is the Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap in a fortnight at Eagle Farm.

The Doomben 10,000 race was originally called the T.M. Ahearn Memorial but was changed to the Doomben 10,000 after the 10,000 pounds prize money on offer.

At the time this was the richest sprint in Australia.

The 2010 Doomben 10000 was won by Hot Danish from Whobegotyou with Melito third.

The 2011 Doomben 10000 will be run on the 28th May, 2011.
