The Australian Guineas is a Victoria Racing Club Group 1 Australian horse race for three-year-olds under set weight conditions.

It is contested over a distance of 1600 metres and is held at Flemington Racecourse in Melbourne during the autumn carnival.

Prize money for the Australian Guineas is worth $750,000.

The Australian Guineas is run on Super Saturday of Racing where all races on the program are stakes races, with seven group races, including two other high quality Group 1 races, the Newmarket Handicap and Australian Cup.

Good lead-up races to the Australian Guineas inclludes the Group 2 Autumn Classic (1800m) the week before at Caulfield and the Group 2 Autumn Stakes (1400m) on Blue Diamond Stakes Day.

From 1998 to 2000 the Australian Guineas was run over the increased distance of 2000m.

Originating as a Group 3 status race, the Australian Guineas was installed as a Group 1 event one year after its inception in 1987.

The 2010 Australian Guineas was won by Rock Classic with Set For Fame second and Linton third.

The 2011 Australian Guineas will be run on the 5th March, 2011.
