The Apollo Stakes is a Group 2 Australian horse race run at Weight for Age.

It is run over a distance of 1400 metres at Rosehill Gardens Racecourse in Sydney in February.

Prize money for this event is worth $250,000.

Although it has always been run over the same 1400m distance, up until 2005 the Apollo Stakes was run at the Royal Randwick.

For those horses who compete in the Apollo Stakes and are looking for a step up in distance will most likely continue their autumn campaigns with a run in events such as the prestigious $400,000 Group 1 Ranvet Stakes (2000m) in March at Rosehill is a fantastic event.

The Apollo Stakes was first run in 1977 and the winner of that race was Visit. It gained its current Group 2 status two years after its inception in 1979.

Over the race's history a number of horses have won multiple Apollo Stakes including Sunline (2000 & 2001) and Juggler (1996 & 1997).

Other top-class gallopers to take out the Apollo Stakes include Tuesday Joy (2009), Lonhro (2003) and Naturalism (1993).

The 2010 Apollo Stakes was won by Danleigh from Rangirangdoo with Palacio De Cristal third.

The 2011 Apollo Stakes will be run on the 19th February, 2011.
