Winners and Past Results for the Patinack Farm Classic

The Patinack Farm Classic is a Victoria Racing Club Group One Australian horse race for horses aged three years old and over run under weight for age conditions.

It is contested over a distance of 1200 metres and is held annually at Flemington Racecourse in Melbourne on the Saturday following the Melbourne Cup during the Spring Racing Carnival in November.

Prize Money for the Patinack Farm Classic is worth $1,000,000.

Patinack Farm Classic was run as a Group One for the first time in 2007, taking over the Group One status of the Salinger Stakes, a 1200 metre handicap run the previous Saturday.

Originally run as a handicap on Derby Day, in 2007 the sprint was changed to weight-for-age and moved to Emirates Stakes Day where it was renamed the Patinack Farm Classic and was won by Miss Andretti.

The Patinack Farm Classic winners includes Vain (1969), Century (1973), Special (1988), Hareeba (1994), Takeover Target (2004) and Miss Andretti (2007).

Only two horses have won it more than once with Planet Ruler in 1989 and 1990 and River Rough in 1983 and 1984. There have been no multiple winners since it became weight-for-age.

As the field sprinted down the Flemington straight, pre-race favourite Sea Siren and Mental, another fancied galloper, didn't let one get too far ahead of the other. Tiger Tees led the way as they got to the business end of this Group 1 feature but Sea Siren eventually reeled him in to take the lead and was joined almost immediately by Mental, who soon hit the front. Mental went strongly to the line, winning by just under a length from Sea Siren, who never gave in. Hallowell Belle came from a long way back to claim third with an eye-catching finish, but the mare was still a long way behind the leading pair.
