The Yalumba Stakes i a Melbourne Racing Club Group 1 Australian horse race run under weight-for-age conditions for three-year-olds and upwards.

The Yalumba Stakes is contested over a distance of 2000 metres and is held annually at Caulfield Racecourse in Melbourne in October during the Spring Racing Carnival.

Prize money for the Yalumba Stakes is worth $400,000.

The race was previously known as the Caulfield Stakes but since 1997 it has been referred to as the Yalumba Stakes.

Held on the Caulfield Guineas Day - the first of three race days in the Caulfield Spring Racing Carnival, two other top quality Group One races go ahead alongside the Yalumba Stakes, being the Toorak Handicap and of course the Caulfield Guineas.

The Yalumba Stakes was first run over 9 furlongs on Melbourne Cup Day in 1886 when it was won by a horse called Isonomy.

It was transferred to Guineas Day in 1887, and in 1887 and 1888 it was ran over 10 furlongs. In 1889 it returned to the 9 furlong distance which was run until 1967. In 1968 the distance was made 2000 metres, and in 1979 it was made a Group 1 race.

2012 Caulfield Stakes(Yalumba Stakes)

New Zealand galloper Ocean Park started as a short-priced favourite in a field of just six and was proficient rather than dazzling in claiming victory. The four-year-old settled fourth as the field dawdled through the middle part of the race with Midas Touch leading the way. The pace quickened as the field neared the turn and Ocean Park cruised to the lead, with Sincero following. Ocean Park seemed to switch off as they neared the post but Sincero couldn't capitalise and Alcopop became the biggest threat, flying home to go past Sincero but unable to catch Ocean Park who did just enough to win by under a length.
