The Up And Coming Stakes is contested over a distance of 1200 metres and is held annually at Warwick Farm Racecourse in Sydney in August.

Prize money for the Up And Coming Stakes is worth $125,000.

The Up and Coming Stakes is held on the same day as the Group 3 Warwick Stakes (1400m) and the Group 3 Silver Shadow Stakes (1200m) for three-year-old fillies, which is the sole spring race day held at Warwick Farm.

The Up and Coming Stakes is an ideal follow up race from the San Domenico Stakes run two weeks earlier, as the Up and Coming Stakes is run under the same race conditions, only it is raced over an extra 100 metres.

Gallopers that contest the Up and Coming Stakes often continue on to contest the richest race at the Sydney Spring Carnival, the $1 million Golden Rose Stakes (1400m) held the following Saturday at Rosehill Racecourse.

The race has been won by some quality three-year-olds including Fastnet Rock (2004), Exceed and Excel (2003), Testa Rossa (1999) and the flying General Nediym in 1997.

Manawanui did it easy in winning this event, settling midfield and racing a little sluggishly at the turn before jockey Glyn Schofield gave him a wake- up call. This reminder was all he needed as he put big distance between himself and the field in the blink of eye and powered away to win by more than four lengths over Queenian with Detours not far back in third.
