Barrier Guide
1000 metres: This start
is located at the end of the chute off the
course proper. The
runners are presented with a 700 metre straight
before the turn into
the home straight. Inside barriers have only a slight
advantage.
1250 metres: Is on the
course proper at the back section of the track.
There is only
about 100 metres of straight before runners have to
negotiate a sharp
turn. Inside barriers are of a distinct advantage.
1350 metres: Similar
to the 1250 metre start but this start giving
runners 200 metres before
the sharp turn. Again inside barrier draws are
important here.
1450 metres: This start
is located in a chute off the course proper and
gives runners a straight
run of 350 metres to the first corner. Inside
barriers are an
advantage.
1850 metres: This barrier
is in a chute off the course proper on the turn
out of the straight.
Runners have about a 350 metre straight before the
first turn. Inside
barriers have an advantage.
2250 metres: Starts
in the home straight on the course proper and
runners have just over
200 metres before the first sharp turn. Because of
the short
straight run at the start and then negotiating a sharp turn an
inside
barrier is an advantage.
2400 metres: Located
at the top of the home straight, there is a
straight run of approximately
300 metres before negotiating a sharp turn.
Even though this is a
race for stayers, inside barriers are a distinct
advantage.
