Riverton
racecourse, New Zealand


Riverton racecourse is home to the Riverton Racing Club and is situated an easy
25 minutes drive south west of Invercargill and races three times a year. The
track is spacious with a long finishing straight and all runners having an even
chance. The local area has fine cafes and bars, access to sea fishing through
charter boats and local fishermen, trout fishing on the Aparima River that flows
through the town, picturesque scenery, native bush walks and is the oldest
European settlement in New Zealand. Accommodation is available through
Hotels, Bed and Breakfasts, Motels and a Camping Ground.
Follow the main road (State Highway 99) from Invercargill and 2kms before
entering Riverton the course is an imposing sight on the right hand side of the
Road. The 4 Grandstands with their Orange roofs can be seen many kilometres
before you arrive at the Track.
Great Western Steeplechase -
This meeting forms part of the famous Easter Carnival which is nationally
recognised as one of the highlights of the racing season in the South Island.
The meeting's feature race offers $50,000 in prize money.
