Hawera Racecourse

Hawera Racecourse is home to the Opunake and Egmont Racing Clubs.

The racecourse is located on Waihi road, Hawera. Travel along the main road½ kilometer north of Hawera. It is adjacent to the northern outlet of town on the state highway to New Plymouth.

Waikato Opunake Cup -

Featuring the $75,000 Waikato Stud Opunake Cup, a Listed race over 1400 m for open horses.  This race is a lead up to the Winter Cup held by the Canterbury Racing and the Club offers the winning horse free return travel to Christchurch and free entry to the race.  The meeting carries stakes of$212,000 which is the highest for Taranaki.  The Club is developing a $35,000 Open race over 1600m for three year olds which is sponsored by NZ Bloodstock Leasing & Finance as a last chance for three year olds to race in there own age group.
