Awakino Point
racecourse, New Zealand.

Dargaville Racing Club races twice a year in May and November. The meetings
are well patronized on-course with patrons traveling from throughout Northland
and beyond to enjoy the picnic atmosphere our raceday creates.
Although it has full dining and bar facilities many choose to bring a picnic or a
barbeque and enjoy the day in the company of family or work groups.
It has a very good track which attracts trainers and owners from throughout
Northland, Auckland and Waikato districts. Facilities for horses include a number
of boxes and yards, with most traveling the night prior to raceday.
The Club usually hosts visiting owners, trainers and staff to a barbeque on the
night prior to raceday.
Visitors will find entrance on raceday free to the public car park. Members. Who
pay an annual subscription fee of $12.00 are able to park in the Members car
park which overlooks the racecourse.
Eftpos facilities are available on raceday.
Awakino Point is located on State Highway 14 on the Dargaville to Whangarei
Road, 3 km from Dargaville and approximately 40 minutes from Whangarei.
The November meeting includes the Northland Cup which is run over 2000
metres. This event carries a stake of $16,000 this year and over the 50 years it
has been run has seen many horses which have won the race go on to do well
in the bigger Spring Cups which follow.
